ADULT: Wingspan up to 18mm.  The forewing is reddish to dark brown with two silvery-grey crossbands. A triangular ferruginous-orange patch at the apex is sprinkled with dark fuscous and cut by a leaden-metallic line. The hindwings are grey.  LARVA: The small maggot-like larva feed on plants such as Hawthorn, Cherry, Apple and Blackberry amongst others. They feed within a spun leaf roll and nibble adjacent leaves. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light in small numbers.  HABITAT: Hedgerows, thickets and woodland edges. FLIGHT PERIOD: June and July. STATUS: Fairly common in southern Britain and slowly spreading further north.
